Sacramento River Fishing Report For, Sacramento River Striped Bass Fishing, May 17, 2017

"The masses have thinned out on the Sacramento River, as in most opinions, the striped bass run winds down." Reports striped bass fishing guide Mike Rasmussen, owner of SalmonSacRiver.com.  Striper fishing on the Sacramento River from Colusa, Ca down river to Tisdale, Ca has remained very solid this last week as anglers continued to catch limits of quality striped bass. Most of the action has seemed to take place downriver around Grimes, Ca this week, with still some solid limits and fishermen coming into Steelhead Lodge producing great catches up river around the Colusa, Ca region of the Sacramento River.  Small spawns have continued to take place throughout the river system as water temps have been hovering around the 60 degree mark. Both a mix of some new striped bass and some spent hard biting, hard fighting striped bass have been making up the daily bag for most anglers still fishing the Spring Spawn.

With Sacramento River water flows still staying higher then average the river temps have settled in and the stripers have been biting very well with the cooler water temps holding off a massive spawn.  Sacramento River fishing guide Mike Rasmussen reports have very solid action with a better grade of keeper fish coming trolling broken back Rapalas and slow rolling 4 inch white swimbaits off the gravel bars and slow moving current area's tucked along the Sacramento River banks. The best bet for the most action and for any angler at any skill lever is to drift live minnows. "The minnow bite is still going off around Colusa and all the way down river to below the Tisdale Weir, as post spawn stripers are keyed in on the remaining chinook salmon smolt that are currently winding down their outgoing migration to the Pacific Ocean. Either side drifted or slow trolled down stream the stripers rarely let the live bait get by when properly presented to them. Kittles Outdoor & Sports kittlesoutdoor.com has done a great job of keeping both extra large and jumbo minnows in stock and ready for use this season. Making it very convenient to stop and grab live minnows or any other tackle and bait needs only minutes from the Steelhead Lodge boat launching facility in Colusa, Ca.

American Shad have moved into the Sacramento River and are being caught from the confluence of the Feather River at Verona, Ca all the way up the Sacramento River to Woodson Bridge in Corning, Ca. Rasmussen will be offering American Shad in combination with striped bass or rainbow trout fishing trips for the month of June, 2017. This is a action packed fishing trip and lots of fun for kids and or first time anglers. Rasmussen can be reached by phone at 530-722-8876, or on the web at SalmonSacRiver.com
