Sacramento River Fishing Report For Striped Bass. March 7, 2018

Big trophy sow striped bass are on the chow this week as they beef up for the upcoming spring spawn. This 30 pound sow striper caught by Nate from Lake County, Ca on March 5, 2017 was finally brought to the SalmonSacRiver.com jet boat after 10 minutes of trying to get her out of a tree. After being successfully landed a picture was taken and the big hen was released unharmed, back into the Sacramento River.

Nate from Lakeport, Ca holds his personal best striped bass weighing in at over 30 pounds. Nate caught this trophy striper while chucking a 13" inch custom glide bait. Made by bait maker Gary Collins of Gcj Custom Lures. Sacramento River Fishing Report For Trophy Striped Bass: February 21, 2018

Bait Maker and Pro Bass angler Gary Collins from Lake Co. Ca holds up a 44 pound striped bass he caught on one of his custom made and custom painted 13 inch glide baits. Gary came with John Pearl and company to spend a day fishing on the Sacramento River with fishing guide Mike Rasmussen of Mike's Guide Service. This cow striper weighed in at 44 pounds and is considered to be as good as it could get for these trophy striped bass of Northern California.

Sacramento River Fishing Report For Striped Bass, And White Sturgeon. February 13, 2018

Sacramento River striped bass fishing guide Mike Rasmussen holds up a monster striped bass that tipped the scales at 48 pounds, and stretched the tape at nearly 48 inches. Rasmussen caught this beast the night prior to the picture above. Which was taken last Wednesday, February 7, 2018. The giant striper was revived and released after a few photos and 15 minutes of revitalization. Unfortunately the almost 60 degrees river temps and the strenuous battle proved to be to much for the old sow striped bass. She was found roughly three miles down river belly up, barely clinging to life. To far gone to save Rasmussen retained her for a skin mount.

Sacramento River Fishing Report For Striped Bass, And White Sturgeon. February 5, 2018

A rarely seen and seldom caught Sacramento River green sturgeon incidentally took the eel that was intended for a white sturgeon. Much different in appearance the green sturgeon has a much different shaped head, and very sharp blades on their diamonds. The DFW report cards also identify distinguishing characteristics of the highly protected and federally endangered green sturgeon of the Sacramento River. This sturgeon being properly identified was not removed from the river and released unharmed.
