Feather River Salmon Fishing Report For October 6, 2017

What is there to say, that hasn't already been said about the salmon fishing on the Feather River at the Outlet Hole near Oroville, Ca. The salmon fishing here in Northern California on the Feather River may go down as the best salmon season I can remember in my 20 plus years of salmon fishing in the North State. And the likely hood of it happening again on this level is most probably non existent. The Feather River salmon fishery being experience by Northern California salmon fishing guides this year, both Sacramento River salmon fishing guides and Feather River salmon fishing guides is one for the personal record books and is thought by the salmon guides to be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Salmon fishing guides from all over the state are taking clients out from all over the United States and even angling enthusiast from outside countries.  Most mainstream salmon fishing guides at the "Outlet Hole"  are getting done with their limits of king salmon for up to six customers before 8:00am. Double and triple hook-ups are common when opportunities are seized to drift yarnies (yarn and a screwed on puff ball on a size 1/0 hook) ball depicting a drifting egg pattern. The action is strait up hot and heavy right now at the hole!! And will certainly continue to stay this way until the salmon seasons ends on the Feather River at the Outlet Hole October 15, 2017.

With time is ticking on the Feather River salmon fishing season here in Northern California, with a little less then two weeks left to take full advantage of a rare opportunity to do some amazing salmon fishing (catching) that' s currently taking place at the Outlet Hole on the Feather River.  For those who have never visited the Thermalito Outlet Hole, bank fishing opportunities do exist and can be very productive and rewarding for beginning salmon fisherman and for North State salmon anglers with busy schedules, lacking the ability to travel great distances in NorCal and Southern Oregon to find and fish the far and few between productive bank fishing spots that exist for the general public. Blue fox spinners in the size #6, and "flossing" using a longer leader with a bead an a hook are the most common bank fishing techniques used on the Feather River at the Outlet Hole. Bobber fishing cured salmon roe close to the shore at some spots in the hole has really started to catch on as of late.

Feather River salmon fishing guides and salmon fishing guides from all parts of the Sacramento River have also been calling the Outlet Hole home for the better part of a month now. With over a dozen full time salmon fishing guides on the water daily and a few other part time salmon fishing guides that show up from day to day. Adding to the salmon fishing flotilla is a handful of dedicated and determined private boat owners who don't mind mixing it up, drifting the white water with all the Northern California salmon fishing guides and their clients that are doing the same short drift repetively with a shocking success rate on hook-ups when drifting through piles of big chinook salmon that lay stacked ten plus feet from the river bottom up. Make no mistake about it this is not the spot on the Feather River to just launch your boat and head out to the big water where the salmon fishing guides make a navigational nightmare appear to be easy, as they await their turn individually, while maneuvering the big currents, surges and boils that make the Outlet Hole waters such a hard place for beginning boaters to master the drift with out causing major disruption in the perfectly synchronized drifting the professionals do.  The guides have been getting their boat limits with ease. Returning their clients back dockside by 8;00am. Then a handful of Feather River salmon fishing guides are returning with a second and even third group of clients in a single day.
