Trinity River Salmon Season Opens With A Bang

It has now been 10 days of lights out salmon fishing here in Northern California. The Trinity River opened to a postponed start to the Spring Run Chinook Salmon On July 1, 2019. Plain and simple, it did not disappoint! Despite the CDFW’s emergency closure to the taking of salmon on the Klamath and Trinity Rivers until July 1, 2019 and shortening the sport fishing season by a little more then a month. Anglers fishing for these “springers” ( Spring Run Chinook Salmon) have had daily success. Both from the bank and the driftboat. Quality, bright chrome, king salmon have been reported being caught by local bank anglers. Who have had most of their success on cured salmon roe. Although, chucking spinners has also produced a number of these highly aggressive springers.

Now ten days into the 2019 salmon season on the Trinity River fishing guides Mike Rasmussen and Ryan Tripp have moved themselves up river. The two are targeting these newly arriving springer salmon. While We Wait For The Upcoming Salmon Season!

The Fall Run Chinook Salmon season opener on the Sacramento River is just around the corner. Only less then a month away for Northern California anglers. American Shad!! All You Want!!

2019 Salmon Season Looking Promising!

Northern California salmon anglers have a reason to get excited about the upcoming 2019 salmon season on the Sacramento River and Feather River, here in the North State. A very positive “fall run chinook salmon” abundance report has been released by the PMF (Pacific Marine Fisheries) this spring. Forecasting much higher run returns to the interior Sacramento Valley and its major tributaries. Scheduled to start on July 16, 2019 for the Sacramento River and Feather River. Running consecutively through the season closure dates of October 31, 2019 on the Feather River, and December 16, 2019 on the Sacramento River. As added confirmation to the expected higher then usual number of returning fall run chinook salmon into Northern California water ways. The CDFW ( California Department of Fish and Wildlife ) https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/fishing/ocean/regulations/salmon has doubled the daily bag and possession limits for returning king salmon for Northern California anglers. Allowing two king salmon per day per person and a possession limit of four king salmon per person for anglers fishing more then one day at a time.
